'It's all about the Stragglers' is the widely
anticipated debut album from the Artful Dodger. Artful Dodger as you may
know are responcible for the tracks 'Re-rewind', 'Movin too fast', 'Woman
Trouble' and 'Please don't turn me on'. This album come after a massive
revolution in the world of music and UK garage.
The first few tracks are quite easy to get into and listen. They have a
faintly garage feel to them, just enough not frighten off the neutral
listener. The familar tracks like 'Movin too Fast' and 'Re-rewind' make it
an easy introduction. However, the middle of the album, particularly from
the track 'Something', it begins to get very overpowering, mundane and to
be honest very 'garagey'. Now I'm not a big fan of garage, mainly because
it all sounds similar and this has proved my point beautifully. After 'Movin
too Fast' it is near impossible to tell all the tracks apart. In it's
defence though, to the hardcore garage fan, it's good. But to me, who is
not into uk garage, it's just dull and mundane. After hearing, 'Movin too
fast' I was anxious to hear the album in a hope the other tracks would be
to a similar calibar, but was left very disappointed.
My advice? If you are into garage, yeah go for it. If not, approach
with extreme caution.
