This dvd is of David's concert at the Point, featuring songs from all of his
albums, from Late Night Radio on Sell, Sell, Sell to Flame Turns Blue from his
most recent Lost Songs.
What strikes me most about his songs is the intensity of feeling and raw
emotion behind the lyrics. I have a few of his albums, but the cd's are not a
patch on the concert recorded live. Watching and hearing him sing, on virtual
surround, is simply incredible.
I think David's music is totally unique, I have not come across another
artist who is so unpretentious, simplistic and expressive. Part of the
attraction is the maturity behind his lyrics and the way he bases his songs on
his own experiences and emotions. My personal favourite has to be "Lead Me
Upstairs", penned by David when he was 17. Still going strong then, for
someone in his early thirties.
Other favourites on this dvd include This Year's Love; Coming Down; Sail
Away; Please Forgive Me; My Oh My. I have heard people complain that some of his
songs, such as Coming Down, are melancholy and depressing, but you get caught up
in the lyrics and feeling of the song, and I actually prefer that to some pop-ish
ballad. He's down to earth and realistic, which is mirrored in the lyrics and
appeals to so many people.
I have practically worn out the dvd from playing it constantly, and I would
definitely recommend it. Best £20 i ever spent. The dvd includes a bonus
documentary of David's tour which you can watch with various foreign subtitles
if the urge takes you!
