Out just last week was "Gone
in 60 Seconds" and already it hold the UK no.1 top spot. Since I do have a thing for
cars, I made the decision to go see it.
The film stars Nicolas Cage, who plays a retired car thief who wants no
more to do stealing. His kid brother however, ends up in trouble after he can't deliver a
deal and it's down to Memphis (Nicolas Cage) to steal 50 cars in two days. His task is
constantly hampered by rival car thiefs and the usual nosy detective suspicious especially
after Memphis rounds up all the old members of his team. In fact, one member of this team,
is the multi-talented Vinnie Jones, who plays a psychotic mute morgue attendent.
In terms of the film over all, this film has redesigned the car chase,
given it a facelift, and most probably some breast implants too. The one problem with film
is it's made car theft a glamerous thing and that is especially dangerous in areas where
car theft is high and increasing problem. Having said that, if you are a responcible law
abiding citizen, then go see this film. The plot is as predictible as anything, but don't
let that stop you. The car chases are more than worth it.
To sum up, a great film if a little inadequate in the plot department.
Gran Turismo on steroids...
