The Real Estate Trading Game where the objective
is to buy and rent or sell properties so profitably that players increase their wealth -
the wealthiest becoming the eventual winner. I'm dedicating this review to
Leprechaun Dave in London whom I'm constantly reminded of every time I play this.
I should point out, however, that this game is TOTALLY unrealistic as was brought to my
attention just recently when I tried to buy the Malone Road in Belfast for £300.
Apparently London must operate with a different exchange rate to the rest of
England. Following this I had need of my get out of jail free card although I was
told that these are only available through the Good Friday Agreement - Hello, hello, is
Dozy bordering on politics here? I shall swiftly move on then (not passing GO nor
collecting £200 for that matter) Free parking?! Maybe Dave can correct me on this,
but I'm sure that parking in London is far from free and the laws of Physics tell me that
it's somehow hazardous to combine your Water Works and Electric Company in order increase
their value.
On top of all these little inaccuracies is the fact that the game is infinitely long till
it comes to the point that dust forms over your houses and hotels giving them a somewhat
Christmassy appeal. And should a player become bankrupt he's not going to be content
with watching the rest finish up is he? Heck no, he's going to ask one of his
opponents to spot him some cash to tide him over till he wins another beauty contest!
But despite all this it is decidedly addictive, well, for the hour or so that you can put
up with it. A traditional board game which is guaranteed to cause a row - fine
family fun.
